CITY AND SEA
A father and son combine to showcase paintings that respond to Sydney’s urban and coastal environment.
18-year-old Jay presents a suite of moody seascapes inspired by beaches in Sydney’s south where he finds emotional grounding in the ebb and flow of the sea. His father, a seasoned urban landscape painter, is more focused on the architectural subject, albeit with works that allude to Sydney’s place by the sea.
Each responds to the drama of light, the poetics of space and the pursuit of the sublime in the world around them.
Sponsored by Matt and Sue Quinliven in memory of their son, Troy Quinliven, former alumnus of the National Art School and departed friend of the McKays.
